Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy covers essential cookies, preference cookies, analytics storage, and similar browser storage used by check your website!. It explains why we use them and the choices you have.
1. Overview
This Cookie Policy explains how check your website! uses cookies and similar browser storage on public pages and inside the product.
Cookies are small files stored on your device. Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, software development kit storage, pixels, tags, and identifiers stored by a browser or device.
2. Categories we use
We group storage into two categories. Strictly necessary storage is always on because the service cannot run without it. Analytics storage is optional and stays off until you allow it.
Strictly necessary (always on)
Needed to provide the service, keep your session secure, and remember basic display choices. Under EU rules this category does not require consent because it is needed to deliver a service you request.
- Authentication and account sessions through our authentication provider, Clerk. These cookies (for example __session, __client_uat, and __clerk identifiers) keep you signed in and protect against session abuse. They last from the end of your session up to about one year.
- Theme preference, stored by check your website! in the cookies check-it-theme and check-it-theme-resolved so the page renders in your chosen light or dark mode before client code loads. These last about one year.
- Your cookie choice itself, stored in local storage under check-it-cookie-consent so we remember whether you allowed analytics. This contains no tracking identifier.
Analytics (optional, off until you allow it)
Helps us understand how people use public pages and product flows so we can improve check your website!. This category only runs after you accept it, and you can withdraw at any time.
- Product analytics through PostHog. When enabled, PostHog stores a pseudonymous identifier and session information in local storage and a cookie (for example ph_<project>_posthog) to record page views, product events, and aggregate usage. It also powers limited session replay on a few pages, with all inputs and text masked so we do not capture what you type.
- PostHog requests are routed through our own domain at /ingest. Analytics identifiers last up to about one year unless you clear them or withdraw consent.
3. Error and reliability monitoring
We use Sentry to detect crashes and errors so we can keep the service reliable and secure. Sentry does not set advertising cookies. It processes technical data such as error details, release version, browser information, and IP address as part of diagnosing problems. When an error occurs, Sentry may capture a short replay of the moments leading up to it, with all text, inputs, and media masked so we do not see your content. We rely on this for the security and reliability of the service.
4. Consent and how to change it
When you first visit, we show a cookie banner. Analytics storage is not set before you choose. You can accept all, reject all, or open Customize to choose analytics on its own. Rejecting is as easy as accepting.
You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the Cookie settings link in the page footer and on this page. Withdrawing consent stops analytics and clears its identifiers. Withdrawal does not affect processing that already took place while consent was active.
You can also control cookies through your browser settings, including deleting or blocking cookies. If you block strictly necessary cookies, parts of the service may not work.
5. Updates
We may update this Cookie Policy when the service, providers, storage practices, or legal requirements change. The updated date shows when the latest version took effect.
