AI visibility: making your website easier for AI tools to recommend
What AI visibility means
AI visibility is the job of making a page easier for AI tools to access, understand, trust, quote, and recommend. It is also known as GEO (Generative Engine Optimization), and as AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) when the focus is answer engines.
How it differs from SEO
AI visibility is not a replacement for SEO. Both disciplines share a base: a page that is crawlable, indexable, and carries a clear identity is easier for every system that reads the web.
SEO optimizes for ranking in search results. AI visibility work asks a different question: when an AI tool answers a user, can it open your page, understand what it is about, trust what it states, and quote it directly?
Readiness and mention tracking are different jobs
A readiness checker measures what a page itself offers: whether AI tools can open it, what the page is about, whether answers are extractable, whether proof and structured data support the claims, and how fast the page loads. That is a property of your page, measured on demand.
Mention tracking monitors live AI systems over time: which tools name or cite a brand in their answers, and when. That is a property of third-party AI output, observed repeatedly.
Check Your Website is a readiness checker. It does not track mentions.
From crawl to citation
Being visible to AI systems is a chain: crawl, understand, trust, quote, recommend. A bot must reach the page, the page must state what it is about, the claims need proof, answers must be extractable, and only then can a system quote or recommend the page.
Each step can break independently. Letting every bot through the door does not earn a citation, and a well-structured page behind a blocked fetch gets read by no one.
What you can verify yourself
Run the free check on one public page to see its readiness score and whether AI tools can open it. Fix the highest-priority issue, publish the change, and verify the same area again to see the before and after.
The methodology page explains exactly how each number is produced.
What is not guaranteeable
No tool can guarantee AI citations, search rankings, or traffic. AI answers are probabilistic: the same question can produce different answers and different sources.
Readiness work raises the measurable inputs you control. It does not control the output.
